Director of Sports for Cruz Azul, took a stand against the criticism generated by the signing of Carlos Peña. He clarified that the player's past has been taken into account.
"At Cruz Azul, we accept his past, that's already settled. He now understands the commitment there is within the team. We will closely monitor his performance and at the end, we will make an evaluation."
And although he ruled out having "given him a talking to" as is commonly said, he stated that the internal regulations of the club have been made known to him. In fact, the director questioned why this new opportunity given to Gullit is heavily criticized.
"I always hear that we must support Mexican players, and when the opportunity is given, it seems that we act in the wrong way. Football-wise, his abilities are immense and he has proven it with conviction. He can be a great asset, he is a very powerful player."
