Cruz Azul forward Edgar Méndez suspended for spitting on opponent

Cruz Azul forward Edgar Méndez has been suspended for six matches by the Disciplinary Commission of the Mexican League for spitting on Club América player Alejandro Díaz during the second leg of the Quarterfinals.

Following the sanction, the Máquina attacker wrote a message to his fans: "No one can take away the happiness of continuing to fight for Cruz Azul. I know what I did was very wrong because I harmed my team and my club, and that's why I want to apologize to everyone."

He also dismissed any rumors of leaving the team after the punishment: "For those who doubt my continuity, I assure you that I have many years left at my club. I am very happy and I will be back soon," he concluded.

"No one can take away the happiness of continuing to fight for @cruzazulfc. I know what I did was very wrong because it harmed my team and my club, and that's why I want to apologize to everyone. I am the first one affected because I won't be able to suppress the desire to fight for everything with my club. And for those who doubt my continuity, I assure you that I have many years left at my club. I am very happy and I will be back soon." 🔵🇲🇽💪
