Monterrey and Tigres, the top two teams in the Apertura 2017, will decide the Liga MX Liguilla title.
The regular stage of the 2017 Opening Tournament left Monterrey as the leader with 37 points, followed by Tigres with 32 points. Therefore, the first and second places will determine the champion of the MX League.
This will not be the first time that two teams in this position - leader and co-leader - define the Mexican First Division title. There have been up to eight precedents, not counting the upcoming one between 'Rayados' and 'Felinos'.
The balance has favored the first place with five victories against two from the second place. The matches are taken into account from the year 1996, the year in which short tournaments were installed in the MX League.
It is worth mentioning that Tigres and Monterrey have been involved in finals - as first or second places - of the Liguilla. In the 2012 Clausura, the 'Pandilla' fell against Santos (leader). The 'Rayados' (leaders) had their rematch against Pachuca in the 2016 Clausura.
On the other hand, Tigres qualified for the Grand Fiesta of the 2014 Opening as second place and lost the final against América. Just like their neighbors, who failed in the first attempt, will the 'Felinos' have their revenge?
