The Eagles, who will play against Cruz Azul in the Quarterfinals of the Apertura 2017, come with one of the most consistent coaches in the playoffs, as Miguel Herrera has managed to secure up to four tickets to the Grand Celebration in his trajectory.
Of the eight coaches who are competing in the current playoffs, El Piojo is surpassed only by Ricardo Ferretti, who has qualified the Tigers seven times in a row since the Apertura 2014.
In his first stage with the Eagles, Herrera achieved four passes to the next phase (from Clausura 2012 to Apertura 2013) and managed to reach the semifinals in the first two instances.
It was in Clausura 2013 when he achieved one of the most remembered titles by the Americanist fans, by dramatically defeating La Máquina thanks to a comeback in the last minutes and a header goal by Moisés Muñoz, who forced the penalty shootout for the Eagles to conquer the championship.
In the fourth tournament, the Eagles managed to reach the final again, but fell surprisingly to Gustavo Matosas' León.
After his time with the Mexican national team, Miguel Herrera returned to the bench of a Liga MX team. This time he did it with the Xolos de Tijuana, with whom he started his duties from Clausura 2016. Although the team had a bad start by finishing in fourteenth place, everything changed from Apertura 2016, where he kept the team as the top seed, although they were eliminated in the Quarterfinals.
For Clausura 2017, the border team repeated at the top of the table, but fell to Tuca's Tigres in the semifinals. It is in the current tournament that he has achieved his third Playoffs and seeks to bring the Eagles back to the top, after being left out of the Grand Celebration last semester under Ricardo La Volpe's orders.
