In La Afición, we remember with great affection Roberto Hernández Vázquez, who was one of the greatest football commentators in Mexico, starting his career in 1958.
Roberto Hernández Vázquez was born on January 25, 1938, in Irapuato, Guanajuato.
Don Rober was a sports presenter who worked at Multimedios Televisión, hosting the program Futbol al Día.
This program started as a radio show in 1961, on XERG 690 Khz station; it moved to television in 1982, and has been broadcasting more than 10,000 shows consecutively to this day.
In 1974, he narrated the World Cup in Germany, which was his first one. Four years later, Don Rober was present at the World Cup in Argentina.
On June 22, 1986, he was the commentator at the World Cup in Estadio Azteca, where the protagonist of the match was Diego Armando Maradona; Hernández Junior had the opportunity to celebrate the goal of the Argentine star against the English.
His last journey as a World Cup commentator was in 1994, at the United States World Cup, where he entertained the matches with his narrations.
His charisma, passion for football, and his favorite team, Tigres of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León, along with the tremendous rivalry with Rayados of Monterrey, animated the audience inside and outside of the matches.
