Juan Francisco Palencia was sacked as head coach of the Pumas of the UNAM, according to a brief statement released by the university club.

Following last night's defeat to Monarcas Morelia at home, the pressure that had been on the auriazul coach for weeks took effect and Pumas announced Palencia's departure.

In the statement, the feline club informed that Spanish coach Sergio Egea will assume the team's technical direction on an interim basis.

As Pumas' coach, Juan Francisco Palencia completed two tournaments and the first six matches of the Apertura 2017, totaling 15 wins, 6 draws, and 19 defeats, with only one appearance in the playoffs, in the first semester.

Due to the decision, Egea will be the one to lead the feline team against the Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz.
