Pamela Andrea Verdirame Elizondo, daughter of former footballer Sergio Verdirame, has become the surprise star and leading forward of Monterrey in the Liga MX Femenil.
Her father, a reference point for Rayados, mentioned that his daughter's path to success has not been easy, whom he advises daily to continue forging a better future in the nascent women's league.
"Pamela has loved Monterrey since she was little and although at first it seemed like she wasn't fit to be a starter, I now tell her that it is easier to arrive, but the difficult part is to maintain oneself," said Sergio Verdirame to La Afición.
After the good start the league has had, Sergio recognized that Pamela always had the support of her family in her dream of becoming a professional footballer: "we always let her be because she has always been a good student, her mother and I let her grow in what she likes the most, which is football," he assured.
With three goals scored, Pamela is positioning herself to be the top scorer of the team, and currently ranks second in the scoring table below Lucero Cuevas of América.
"It is too early to talk about top scorer, I am happy for the start she has had but I would prefer to wait," her father commented.
The 20-year-old footballer made her debut on the right foot in the Apertura 2017 Tournament, as she scored the second goal of the match in the 5-2 victory against Necaxa.
"This is the first step, we must continue like this and not lower the level. We want to be champions but this is step by step, with good football and delivering results," the player mentioned after the first victory.
Her second goal came precisely in Matchday 2, in a match played by Monterrey against León, Pamela opened the scoring with a goal in the 48th minute.
In Matchday 3, Monterrey defeated Querétaro at the BBVA Bancomer Stadium and Verdirame opened the scoring in the 22nd minute to finish the match 2-1, thus claiming her third victory.
The new women's promise has not had any participation in the national team in any of its categories but, due to her good performance in the Liga Femenil, she could be called up in the near future.
"I am very happy with the present that Pamela is experiencing, I know that this is just the beginning," concluded the former footballer.
Monterrey is currently the best offense in the tournament, with 9 goals in favor, surpassing América, Pachuca, and Tigres, who have 8 goals each.
Their next match will be against Atlas on Saturday, August 19 at 12:30 hours.
