About Xolos de Tijuana
In mid-2011, Mexican soccer was excited about a revelation squad that came from the Ascenso MX and that, starting from the Apertura Tournament, would play in the top division. They were the Xolos de Tijuana, who at that time, under the guidance of Joaquín del Olmo from the second division, displayed a flashy, offensive performance that reminded everyone that the greatest satisfaction in this sport, for players and fans alike, are the goals.
Their essence was offensive from start to finish. However, the positive results, against all expectations, did not accompany Joaquín's management and in their first 270 minutes on the field, they suffered three defeats, scoring only one goal per game. Their team entered a crisis that they couldn't reverse, and on the eighth matchday, Joaquín was relieved of his duties.
Today, in reference to the first three matches, Eduardo Coudet, the border team's coach, has worse statistics than Del Olmo. The 0-3 defeat against Monterrey, just yesterday, marked the total collapse of his administration.
Coudet arrived in early June, with the firm goal of maintaining the positive results left by his predecessor, Miguel Herrera. However, beyond the departure of several players who were once key figures, such as Guido Rodríguez and Avilés Hurtado, Xolos seems to have lost their way with the Argentine strategist at the helm.
Three defeats are the result of his work so far, and unfortunately for him, in each match that Tijuana has played, the following one has made it clear that their shortcomings are greater.
In the Apertura 2017, Xolos began their journey with a defeat at home against Cruz Azul, with a score of 0-2, although the details of the game indicated that the team could have the means to react. In the second match, in Aguascalientes, they suffered another defeat, this time with a 1-0 scoreline against Necaxa. Finally, in the ongoing matchday, Tijuana hosted Monterrey, which had not achieved its best performance, but at La Frontera, they earned three points... Now, the doubts, beyond the field, are focused on their coach and his future in the dugout.
