Santos Laguna makes its debut in the professional women's soccer league, Liga MX, with a 2-1 victory over León.
The match, corresponding to the first round of the Apertura 2017, was played at 9:00 am on Field 2 of the Territorio Santos Modelo, with a good turnout of fans who enthusiastically supported the warriors.
With that support from the stands, the Santos team went all out against the opposing goal, generated goal opportunities, and immediately took the lead.
Santos achieved their first 3 points of the competition and now prepares for their first away game, which will be next Saturday against Atlas at 2:30 pm at the Chapalita facilities.
Just 2 minutes into the game, Santos took a corner kick, the ball traveled to the near post, and Blanca Rodríguez arrived to score a solid header, making it 1-0.
The goal gave more confidence to the home team, whose intention was to immediately search for the second goal to put pressure on their rivals, who tried to contain Santos' advances by defending in their own half without the ball.
In the 9th minute, the score became 2-0, this time with a crossed shot that the goalkeeper failed to contain, leaving the ball for Jocelín Hernandez to push into the unprotected net.
This made it seem like a big win was possible before halftime, however, the laguneras were unable to score again in the remainder of the first half.
After the break, Santos immediately tried to play their game as it worked for them in the first half, but the adjustments made by the leonas during halftime changed the dynamic and they took the initiative.
Although there were chances on both goals, the most dangerous ones were felt in the home team's goal, and the ball spent more time in the possession of the team from Guanajuato.
The Santos defense performed well, preventing León from causing much harm, so the opposition resorted to shots from medium and long distance.
In the 75th minute, Sanjuana Muñoz scored a goal from a long-range shot to make it 2-1, adding more excitement to the end of the match.
Thus, with the leonas pressing and the warriors being solid in their defense, the match ended with good refereeing from Diego Aarón Parra Ibarra.
