Chivas defeated Tigres in the Clausura 2017 Final of the Liga MX, which tied them with America as the clubs with the most championships in Mexican soccer.

Chivas crowned champion of Liga MX by defeating Tigres in the 2017 Clausura Final, bringing their total to twelve titles in Mexican football, the same number as their main rival, Club América, who can no longer claim to be the "greatest" in Mexico, at least in terms of league championships.

América has almost always lived in the shadow of Chivas in terms of league titles in the professional era. With the title in the 2005 Clausura, the Águilas put an end to 48 years of trailing behind the Guadalajara team in the historical record.

One year later, with Jorge Vergara as the owner of the team, Chivas conquered their eleventh star, once again putting the club above their bitter rival. The story would change suddenly.

After another 8 years of enduring the red-and-white team as the "leaders" of the league, the capital team won two titles that would put them, for the first time in their history, one step ahead. The Clausura 2013 and the Apertura 2014 gave the azulcrema team the title of "the most successful in Mexico."

Then the rivalry grew, Chivas went 10 years without being able to win a league championship and two and a half years enduring mockery that minimized their era as the 'champion team', not to mention the relegation problems they had to deal with.

The champion not only left Tigres wanting a sixth title, but also wiped the smile off the faces of the América fans, whose argument of being "the most successful" will now take a backseat to 'hating more' their eternal rival, with whom they will once again start a race, now as equals, to rule the top circuit of Mexican football.
