Despite America's poor performance throughout the Clausura 2017, they are currently in the playoff positions and with two matchdays remaining, qualification is imminent. With all this, La Volpe has not taken responsibility for any of his team's defeats and always blames others for their five losses in this tournament.
Toluca 2-1 America
In their first match of the year, La Volpe justified their defeat with the little time their team had to recover after the final played on December 25th, in addition to the "little sacrifice" of their players in ball recovery.
Tigres 4-2 America
In Matchday 3 of the current championship, they visited Tigres. La Volpe's team fell again and this time he blamed his forwards, specifically Darwin.
"Football has elements of finishing, the goal-scoring opportunities that the team creates must be capitalized, we didn't finish some very clear plays. I think we even had a clear 3-2 chance in a one-on-one with Darwin that would have changed the game."
Jaguares 2-0 America
After winning in Matchday 3 and 4, the Azulcremas played their postponed match against Chiapas midweek. Moises Munoz was the hero and didn't allow his former team to score. Once again, 'El Bigoton' distanced himself from the blame and this time the attackers from that match were held responsible.
"Teams are built through creativity, we are working with Darwin, Peralta, Dominguez, so that they rotate positions and generate football, so that we generate more creativity, we should have created more goal-scoring opportunities."
Chivas 1-0 America
In the Clasico Nacional, the Argentine coach did not give any statements regarding his team's defeat as he was sent off the field during the game.
Santos 2-1 America
Last Sunday, the team from the capital lost to Santos in Torreon. The goal came in the final minutes of the match and once again La Volpe was unable to assume his responsibility in a game plan that leaves much to be desired. The American coach claimed that the defense was fine but a mistake cost them the match, in addition to mentioning the lack of precision in the passes.
"We need to be more aggressive, more precise in the plays. The control was there, but in some one-on-one situations, we didn't make the right pass, but the team is competitive, I am calm, the defense is handling well."
