Commemorating 90 years of American football history at UNAM

To commemorate the 90 years of American football history at UNAM, the university made a call and chose a representative image that will be part of the celebrations taking place in the second semester of the year when the season begins.

The winner of the contest opened to the university community was Esteban López Jiménez, a graduate of the Faculty of Arts and Design, who was chosen for his design to be the image of this celebration out of 113 works presented to the General Directorate of University Sports.

"It is a feeling of joy and pride to have won among over 100 submitted works. It is a great achievement for me to be in first place," said Esteban López, who presented "90 Years of Passion and Glory".

"I began researching the history of American football at UNAM and, before designing a graphic image, the title of my work came to mind. From there, after reading the entire history, all the triumphs and everything that American football represents for the University, I reached a conclusion.

"It was a lot of effort, analysis, techniques, changes, and in the end, I made about five different sketches to reach the final work," he added.

Esteban López has been working at the General Directorate of Science Dissemination (DGDC) of UNAM for 10 years, but has been linked to UNAM for over 15 years, starting from the National Preparatory School campus 2 "Erasmo Castellanos", before moving on to the Faculty of Arts and Design and doing his social service in the department where he stayed to work.

"I consider logos to be the most challenging part of design due to the synthesis. They have to express something with minimal forms and be represented in various media. In this case, the nine and the zero form the helmet as a symbol of the unity and strength that American football provides," López Jiménez explained.

In this same contest, Salvador Ibarra (FAD), Diego Fernández (FAD), Carlos Muñoz (Faculty of Architecture), Ricardo García (FAD), and Joshua Mares (Faculty of Engineering) were awarded an honorable mention by the jury.

The DGDC plans a series of events for the next semester around this important date. First, an international bowl, where the Pumas will face a European selection. Starting from September 2nd, the Major League will begin, and there will be a celebration at every home game. Additionally, an exhibition will be organized and a commemorative book will be published.
