"The expenses in sports in Mexico are not transparent," Nelson Vargas said to La Afición.

"The expenses in sports in Mexico are not transparent," Nelson Vargas said to La Afición.

On the framework of the presentation of the Redesign of the Mexican sports system study, carried out by UVM and The Aspen Institute, Nelson Vargas, former director of Conade, said to La Afición that he loves to see initiatives like this to encourage sports and physical activity in our country.

RECOMMENDED: Proposal for the redesign of the Mexican sports system.

"I am very happy to have been here, to have an initiative like this, which is undoubtedly missing in the country; I would have liked to see more people from Conade in this meeting. What is being presented is extremely necessary, since the country and the Federal Government have not handled it well, because at the beginning of the six-year term they had 8 billion pesos and I think we are doing bad around there, because the expenditure is not transparent, there is the example of Guadalajara 2011 and Veracruz 2014. I think these initiatives are very good, the approach and the foundations of the project are extraordinary," he declared.

Nelson considered the cancellation of the Swimming World Championships that were going to be held in our country was a correct decision.

"They did not fall into the so-called 'eventitis' phenomenon, justifying that the performance of athletes is not improved with events, but with systematic and proper preparation, with sports applied sciences, not with events. Many politicians believe that this is how sports improve and it is not like that," he said.

Finally, he also emphasized that the Achilles' heel of sports in our country is the lack of coaches, as well as bringing in foreign people who become 'Mexicanized' and only seek their own benefit, without sharing their knowledge, which is a problem that has been dragging since 1968.
