Characteristics of the Toros de Tijuana in 2016
Lots of fuss was caused when the Toros de Tijuana reached the Serie del Rey in 2016. The border team implemented a different work plan compared to the rest of the League, opening the door to many Mexican-Americans and making high and low moves practically every day.
They bet on that and it worked for them. If that plan had results, why change it? The Tijuana team conducted its training and practice games in the United States, using a sports complex that belonged to Major League teams in Arizona. This work gives them another preparation, in every sense, now they must make it reflect on the field. The Bulls opened the door to Corey Brown, Roberto López, José López, Gabriel Gutiérrez, Alex Liddi, Jio Mier, Chris Valencia, Cyle Hankerd, and Benino Pruneda, among others.
Their lineup will have Jorge Cantú back, who returns after missing a large part of the season due to illness, and will be completed by José Guadalupe Chávez, Isaac Rodríguez (Rookie of the Year in 2016), Dustin Martin (another one of their most destructive cannons), Juan Apodaca, and Óscar Robles. A lot of power and ability to score the five runs they averaged, a good cushion for the pitchers, who with the assistance of coach Roberto Espinoza, improved their performance and ended with a tight 3.76 earned run average. Although they will miss Barry Enright, who returned to the United States, and the change of Walter Silva, Alex Sanabia appears as the main arm in the rotation. "We are thinking of improving what we did last year, we stayed on the edge of the championship. We are working to have another excellent year to seek to give that title to the fans," said Pedro Meré, the team's manager.
