Remco Evenepoel, the current world champion, suffered a fall during the fifth stage of the Giro d'Italia on Wednesday when a dog crossed the road.
The Belgian cyclist was able to continue and stay in the race. The road was slippery due to rain in that area, 150 kilometers from the finish line.
Television images show a dog crossing the road just before causing the fall of one of Evenepoel's teammates from Soudal-Quick Step.
The second-place rider in the overall classification also fell. After a while, he got up, changed bikes, and was able to continue with the support of his teammates.
The fall did not seem to be serious, as the Belgian rider raised his thumb to the camera as a reassuring gesture. He was able to rejoin the peloton shortly after.
The fifth stage of the Giro, 171 kilometers long, connects Atripalda with Salerno.
