Napoli is crowned champion of Serie A after 33 years
The Italian football club Napoli, absolute dominator this season, became champion of Serie A for the third time in its history by drawing 1-1 in their visit to Udinese, in the closing of matchday 33.
The current generation led by Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia emulates what the 'Maradona years' team achieved when they won the club's first league titles (1987, 1990).
Napoli only needed to score in this match against twelfth-placed Udinese and did not fail.
Udinese took the lead in the 13th minute through Sandi Lovric and the visitors equalized the score in the 52nd minute through Osimhen.
The 'tifosi' were able to uncork the 'prosecco' and unleash celebrations they had been preparing for weeks, due to the big advantage that Napoli had in the standings, making this title anything but a surprise.
Napoli had wasted the opportunity to win the 'Scudetto' at their own stadium Diego Maradona last Sunday. They needed a win but could only draw 1-1 against Salernitana in a derby.
On Wednesday, Napoli could have been champion without even playing, if Lazio (2nd) had not won against Sassuolo, but the Roman team won 2-0 and delayed the celebrations again.
But Luciano Spalletti's team did not waste the 'match ball' and succeeded AC Milan as champion, the club that eliminated them in the quarterfinals of the Champions League last month.
That lost match against AC Milan was a disappointment, but it was also the season in which Napoli went the furthest in the top European competition.
In the Italian Cup, however, they disappointed with an elimination in the round of 16 against Cremonese, a team that is barely second to last in Serie A and has a difficult time staying in the top flight. AFP
