Everything has its end. The successful 39-year-old forward announced this afternoon his decision to say goodbye to the field in an interview with the Italian press. Find out here the reasons for his farewell.
“After twenty years... My oldest son is almost 13 years old and I only saw him during breaks between one championship and another. Now I want to dedicate myself to my family. So we will surely see something related to football, because I don't know how to do anything else", Pandev said about the reason for his retirement.
“All summer I didn't think about football and when that happens, you let go, eat and train less. I don't have the mindset to go to training anymore. After playing in Serie B last year, without playoffs, I spent a few months doing nothing. And at 39 it becomes even harder", he added.
Goran Pandev had already closed his chapter in the national team of his country, North Macedonia, a year ago, during the last Eurocup; however, in February 2022, he joined the ranks of Parma in Serie B to give his last performances on the field.
The multi-champion with Inter, Lazio, Napoli, and Galatasaray also referred to his nearest future. “I see myself more as a director or sports agent. I enjoy working with young people and helping them, talking, watching games," he commented.
Finally, he did not hesitate to thank the fans of the different teams where he played, the coaches, and the officials. "Thanks to all the coaches, presidents, and fans. Each one gave me something and I don't forget anything," he concluded.
