Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas moves from Monaco to Como in the Italian second division

The Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas, whose contract with Monaco ended, has signed with Como and will be a rival of Gianluca Lapadula in the upcoming season in the Italian second division.

Even before the announcement of the transfer by the club from northern Italy, the official website of Serie B confirmed the arrival of the prestigious 2010 World Cup champion in the section where new contracts are approved.

Fabregas, 35 years old, comes from a season without playing minutes with Monaco, without featuring for the first team of the Principality since September.

"Individually, it ends badly, that's clear. Every professional wants to play and feel important," confessed the Spaniard to AFP in May, stating that he had experienced the "worst" season of his long career, with past experiences at Arsenal, Barcelona, and Chelsea.

"I still want to play. I don't want to end like this, it's a very bad year to end like this and I want to play, have fun, enjoy, finish with good sensations", he said, wishing to join a club where he could have more minutes and "a project that believes in me".

According to the Italian press, Como offered a two-year contract to the experienced player. The club finished last season in 13th place in Serie B. The team from northern Italy starts the season on Saturday, in the round of 32 of the Italian Cup, against La Spezia. AFP
