Zlatan Ibrahimovic extends contract with AC Milan

The 40-year-old Swedish striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, has extended his contract with Milan until June 2023, the club announced on Monday.

The evergreen Zlatan Ibrahimovic will continue his contract with Milan, which he will turn 41 in October, for another season.

"AC Milan is pleased to announce the renewal of Zlatan Ibrahimovic's contract until June 30, 2023. The Swedish forward will continue to wear the number 11," the club announced. Milan returned to the top of Italian football by winning their 19th Scudetto in May.

His role as a leader, as the main replacement for coach Stefano Pioli, is essential, despite the fact that the striker, who has played for Ajax Amsterdam, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, PSG, Manchester United, and Los Angeles Galaxy, played very little last season due to several Achilles tendon and left knee injuries.

After finishing the season, suffering and frustrated by very little playing time, he underwent surgery in May to reconstruct his anterior cruciate ligament, which was essential after months of suffering.

Now he will have to respect a recovery period of seven to eight months, which will prevent him from playing before 2023.

Although Milan has offered him an additional year, his salary has been significantly reduced and includes various variable parts based on his matches and performances next season, according to the Italian press. - AFP
