Gaizka had a photo with the executives, everything was a done deal, but the tweet from nine years ago where Gaizka wrote: "The disgust I have for Zaragoza and how they've screwed me with this gooool" prevented the hiring of the team that plays in the Second Division of Spain.
When the message became known, the club indicated that they would take some time to evaluate the signing. The response was negative: "This circumstance would hinder Gaizka's growth in the team. This resolution has not been easy, but one of the fundamental pillars of this institution is respect for our history and our fans. We have the responsibility to be faithful to that principle". Everything happened in two days.
Goalkeeper's Apology
The apologies and reflection from the goalkeeper did not take long. Gaizka acknowledged that he made a mistake: "Unfortunate words written many years ago by a child and that in no way reflect the person and professional that I consider myself to have become, something that I believe anyone who has accompanied me in my career until today can confirm".
"You learn from your mistakes. I hope you can accept the apologies from that child who made a mistake and understand the man who is writing these words today, whose only goal is to continue fulfilling a dream: to be a football player".
