The season for Mario Gotze, who has not played since the beginning of 2017 due to metabolic problems, is over. The club's goal with the player is for him to be fully operational for the next campaign, Borussia Dormund announced.
"If the treatment is positive, Gotze will be able to join training in a few months. Currently, the player is in a rehabilitation phase and is following an individual training program," the German team added in a statement on its website.
The 24-year-old World Cup champion was diagnosed with recurring muscle problems that prevented him from being in the proper physical condition. Doctors established in February that he had to give up training to combat the disease.
"BVB, also on behalf of its ten million fans, wishes Mario Gotze a speedy recovery," concluded the president of the club's board of directors, Hans-Joachim Watzke.
