FC Barcelona focuses on reinforcing their defense

With the already consolidated attack of the seemingly inexhaustible talent of the MSN, the FC Barcelona board is now focusing on finding players who can improve their defensive performance. Last summer, the club recruited left-back Lucas Digne and center-back Samuel Umtiti, but their agenda still includes several players who could give a new boost to this area.

New full-back and central defender on the list

Most of the potential recruits on this list are desired to free up academy product Sergi Roberto from his current position and allow him to become the main backup for Sergio Busquets. Similarly, the club also plans to incorporate a reliable central defender into their squad who can cover the backline for the duo formed by Gerard Piqué and the aforementioned Umtiti.

Possible strategies for recruitment

Regarding this matter, the club values two possible approaches. The first one, as reported by Sport, would be to definitively bet on one of the defenders in their lower categories. Brazilian Marlon Santos (21 years old), a player who has already made his debut with the first team, the very young and promising Eric García (16), or Uruguayan Santiago Bueno (18), who was recruited just yesterday, are the three main alternatives.

The second approach would involve signing a new central defender who combines youth and talent. Colombian Yerry Mina (22 years old), a player who has been performing well with Palmeiras and for whom Barcelona holds a preferential option, would fit perfectly into this plan, which also includes his compatriot Davinson Sánchez (Ajax Amsterdam, 20).
