Rodolfo Sibrian is analyzing taking on the technical direction of the Referees Commission of the Mexican Football Federation, replacing Edgardo Codesal.

Rodolfo Sibrian is close to becoming the director of the technical area of the Referee Commission, the position that Edgardo Codesal had until a few weeks ago. The Salvadoran is already working with the group led by Héctor González Iñárritu, but has not yet officially accepted the position.

It will be in the coming days when he determines his future, as some family matters have made him reflect. The Salvadoran has academic credentials; he is pleasant and outgoing in his demeanor, because he considers that referees should appear more in the media, so verbal expression does not fail him.

In addition, he is a FIFA instructor and has a master's degree in Higher Education Administration that he obtained in the United States. In El Salvador, he has a bachelor's degree, as refereeing was a hobby for him, and when it became his job, he had to update not only on field topics but also on theoretical ones. He was a university professor for 19 years, and he stated that "we have the ability to develop methodology, that is a parallel area that helps us do a good job, helping referees and football."

Rodolfo told La Afición that "I had lunch with Decio de María (FMF president), Guillermo Cantú (general secretary), Enrique Bonilla (Liga MX president), and Héctor (González Iñárritu) proposed to me to be the director of the technical area. I told them that I would think about it because it would mean coming to live in Mexico, and I have some family matters to settle in El Salvador, I can't leave it like that, I have children who are studying at the university, the situation is complicated. Let's hope it gets resolved in the best way."

He explained that "in the first fifteen days of February, we have to settle the situation to decide the work plan and a development plan for all Mexican refereeing, not only for Liga MX but also for the Ascenso, Segunda and Tercera División, the guys who officiate in the U-20, the reserves, everyone. So that in this tournament, we start working and see results on the field soon."

However, he is already working on a plan to improve Mexican refereeing, with specific areas.

"The work plan has about five or six areas to address. The first is individualized work with referees, the second is with assessors, those who evaluate referees on the field. Third, we have to build a strong team of instructors to recruit, train, and maintain referees, we have to change the teaching methodology on the field and in the classroom a bit."

He then spoke about "a situation that we have to manage, regarding the teamwork we have to manage with the psychologist, the doctor, the fitness trainer, the nutritionist, we have to sit down and create a work plan; the last thing is a better relationship with the media so that everyone knows what hurts us, what we feel, and that we are all in the same boat."

Sibrian is aware that it will not be an easy task, as he had previously been close to the FMF and its Referee Commission, but taking on a definitive role is an important responsibility.

"It is challenging, but not in a negative way, in the work sense that can make you grow. The Mexican league is among the top seven or eight in the world. Obviously, it gives you status because you are among the best, that challenge catches your attention, but there are also needs to be addressed, which have not been addressed; we have to take the best paths, see the advantages, the disadvantages, to serve and make a change."

In addition, Sibrian pointed out that "right now we are supporting the technical area, just a reinforcement to strengthen some methodologies, to do a more organized work with the referees, to address individual problems so that when making decisions on the field, the referees are more effective."

However, he knows that if he takes the reins of that area, there will surely be judgments towards his work, that in Mexico, like in many other places, refereeing suffers severe judgments, not only from the media but also from the players, coaches, and directors themselves.

Héctor González Iñárritu, President of the Referee Commission, detailed that besides Sibrian, there are other candidates.
