"Viejos son los trapos", reza el antiguo refrán, y tiene razón

Kazuyoshi Miura, a 49-year-old player, has just renewed his contract with his club, Yokohama F.C., and will play professional soccer for one more season. The Japanese forward is known for being the inspiration for Yoichi Takahashi, the creator of the animated series Captain Tsubasa.

Nearly Fifty, but Still Going Strong

On February 26th, Miura will turn 50, but he remains as optimistic as ever when it comes to the challenges he will face wearing the colors of his club. "I hope to continue helping the team, my teammates, and all the fans who have always supported me," he said in an interview with the BBC.

A Long and Successful Career

In addition to playing in Japanese soccer, the almost fifty-year-old also wore the shirts of Santos and Coritiba of Brazil, Genoa of Italy, Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia, and Sydney FC of Australia. He represented his country in 89 matches, scoring 55 goals, and was a key player in Japan's first qualification for a World Cup, the 1998 tournament in France.
