Wolfsburg today confirmed in a statement the departure of their midfielder Julian Draxler to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for four seasons.
The German club responds to the information released yesterday by the newspaper "Bild", which reported the signing of the 23-year-old German international by the French team until 2021 in a contract worth around 40 million euros plus extras.
The two teams have chosen to keep the "financial details" of the operation confidential, which is only pending the player's medical examination.
"We have had very intense but constructive conversations with PSG, Draxler and his representative in the last few days, and we are confident that we have reached a satisfactory agreement for all parties," said Olaf Rebbe, sporting director of Wolfsburg.
The agreement between PSG and Wolfsburg includes an additional two million euros for qualifying for the Champions League or winning the French league, according to "Bild".
The agreement is also positive for Wolfsburg because, despite losing one of their stars, they receive a significant amount of money at a difficult financial time.
The coach of the German team, Valérien Ismaël, admitted he was "sad" about Draxler's departure from the bench because he is an "outstanding footballer," but wished him luck with the French champions.
"I hope his move to France represents a new challenge for him," added the Wolfsburg coach.
Draxler joined Wolfsburg from FC Schalke 04 at the end of 2015, signing until 2020.
With the Volkswagen team, he has scored ten goals in two seasons (5 in the Bundesliga, 3 in the Champions League, and two in the German Cup).
The midfielder, who recently expressed his interest in leaving the German club, is in a poor state of form and has been criticized in recent times for his performances, with his team only fighting to maintain their category this season.
"It has been the worst first half of my life," Draxler said at the end of the last Bundesliga match.
