Forbes Reveals the Top 100 Highest-Paid Athletes of 2016
The Forbes magazine has released the list of the top 100 highest-paid athletes of 2016. Boxers Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao top the list.
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao took their rivalry out of the boxing ring. In terms of earnings, both boxers generated $600 million when they faced each other on May 2nd. This record positioned them as the highest-paid athletes of 2016.
Mayweather earned $300 million from this fight, while Pacquiao made $160 million. This bout broke the previous earnings record held by Tiger Woods in 2008 with $115 million.
The list is based on athletes' earnings from salary and endorsements.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Roger Federer rank third, fourth, and fifth respectively, with earnings of $79.6, $73.8, and $67.0 million.
