Argentine defender Julian Velázquez to miss last two matches of the Apertura 2016 Tournament
Cruz Azul's Argentine defender, Julián Velázquez, will miss the last two matches of the Apertura 2016 Tournament of the MX League after undergoing knee surgery.
According to the club's doctor, Alfonso Jiménez, the operation took place this Monday, and he is currently being evaluated to be discharged so that he can join the rehabilitation work with the "celestial" team on Thursday.
"Yesterday, Julián Velázquez underwent knee surgery; during the week, he injured his meniscus during a training session. Tests were performed, and it was found that he had an injury in the meniscus of his right knee," he explained.
In a press conference at the Azul Stadium prior to the team's practice, the specialist added that "he will join the rehabilitation with us on Thursday, so he is expected to be out of action for approximately four weeks."
On the other hand, he revealed that midfielder Víctor Vázquez has already returned from Spain and is working separately, as he travels to his country every six months for a special evaluation of the injury he has in one of his knees, so he is now being evaluated at Cruz Azul.
"Víctor Vázquez has already returned and is working separately with one of the rehabilitators. He suffered a severe injury when he was at Barcelona that affected various parts of his knee, the cartilage, the patella, the meniscus, and he regularly goes to the Barcelona doctor every six months for a check-up," he explained.
He mentioned that according to the instructions they have, it is very likely that he will rejoin the normal work with the rest of his teammates next week, "everything is according to the timing, we will see how he progresses as he only returned yesterday."
Regarding defender Omar Mendoza, he said that he had an injury in the abductor of one leg, so his recovery process is planned to be four to six weeks; although he has already completed two weeks as the discomfort has decreased considerably and he is within the expected timeline.
Meanwhile, in the cases of the Chilean Enzo Roco and the full-back Adrián Aldrete, who had muscle discomfort, they have already returned to work normally with the Cruz Azul team.
