Ultra Fans of Legia Warsaw Clash with Police at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium

Ultra fans of Legia Warsaw threw bottles at the police this afternoon in the vicinity of Santiago Bernabeu Stadium before the start of the Champions League match between Real Madrid and the Polish team.

Less than two hours before the start of the match, according to police sources confirmed to EFE, a small group of the most radical Legia ultras threw bottles at police officers on Rafael Salgado street, the area where the Polish team's fans had access to the stadium.

The police charged on horseback and used rubber bullets to calm down the situation, which did not escalate due to the quick intervention of the law enforcement forces responsible for preventing any incidents before, during, and after high-risk football matches due to the violence of Legia fans.

Two police officers and five Polish ultras were injured and treated for minor wounds. One fan, with an open head wound, required a neck brace, while another suffered a hand fracture, according to SAMUR sources.

Subsequently, with the match underway, around 500 ticketless ultras were left outside the stadium and once again clashed with the police, who managed to control the Legia Warsaw fans.

Due to the potential presence of the most violent ultras from the Polish team, the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium was heavily fortified to prevent any incidents.

Up to three police rings of protection around the Madrid fortress were used to control the Legia radicals, known as some of the most violent in Europe.

The fanbase of the Central European club is feared throughout the continent for their well-known violence and already managed to bypass all security measures at the Polish Army Stadium during their match against German side Borussia Dortmund.

Before and during that match, they used hundreds of flares inside the venue and sprayed the police with pepper spray.

As a result, UEFA punished the Polish club with a match to be played behind closed doors. The alarm was also raised among the following clubs that have to host Legia Warsaw in their stadiums, including Real Madrid.

The security forces trying to prevent any incidents in Madrid amount to 2,000, twice as many as for a normal match and 500 more than for a Real Madrid-Barcelona or a Real Madrid-Atletico Madrid match.

The security forces have spared no expense, and near Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, one can see a significant presence of the National Police, Municipal Police, police dogs, and helicopters flying over an area that has been thoroughly inspected, even underground.

The sewer system has also been inspected by members of the state security forces, who last night arrested three Legia Warsaw supporters for causing damage to a bar in Madrid, where they tried to steal a cash register, a mobile phone, and assaulted two waitresses.

The detainees are charged with public disorder, damages, and assaulting two women in a bar on Illescas street in the Latina district of the capital.

The "Teddy Boys 95" reign within the ranks of Legia ultras, being the leading and most violent group among all the radicals of the Polish team. They declare themselves fascists, homophobic, xenophobic, far-right, and routinely engage in street fights and incidents in the stands in their country.

The concern about the possible arrival of these groups alarmed Real Madrid, who sent Legia Warsaw the 4,000 tickets required by UEFA for the visiting team and requested the Polish club not to sell any tickets to their most radical fans.

In addition, they attempted to prevent the sale of tickets through the internet using credit cards of Polish origin. Therefore, in the morning, around Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Legia fans could be seen trying to buy tickets from scalpers.
