The Nike Academy football arrives in Mexico City

The Nike Academy football is now operating in Mexico City, at the facilities of Club America. Any young person between the ages of 16 and 20 who is interested in experiencing top-level training can do so for free. To do this, they must download the Nike Futbol app (available for iPhone and Android), register and go to the Coapa Nest to live this experience.

A training system developed by Nike

Diego Enriquez, in charge of this project, commented that this training system will be developed for one year at the Coapa facilities, but also internationally, with sessions that Nike has worked on with players and sponsored clubs.

"It is a platform for young people who are not registered with a professional team to have the opportunity to live this training experience with a professional orientation. They are usually young people who play in the neighborhood or in their schools, but who intend to learn what a training session is like and here they will be able to experience it. It is a program that already exists in England and we brought it to Mexico, where young people train with the best product and the best technology, just like professional players do," he added.

Training sessions based on research

Enriquez explained what a day of these practices consists of at Coapa: "The training sessions are designed based on research carried out with the clubs and athletes we sponsor internationally, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, and Mario Gotze, to name a few, and with teams like Barcelona or Paris Saint Germain. There are exercises that are designed by these teams and implemented here," he said.

Opportunity for young talents

This project is already underway and will be carried out for a year, every Sunday, for 40 young people between the ages of 16 and 20 who can register through the Nike Futbol app. Notifications will be sent through the app to inform when the registrations are open. An opportunity for the best talent

But it won't just be the experience of training at Coapa, as there is a big prize at stake. "The participants who are in these sessions are taking the first step. The best talents will be observed to later form part of private sessions. Then there will be a match against a team from the lower categories of Club America and at the end of that match, we will select a winner who will spend a year at the Nike Academy in England, at St George's Park (the training complex for the England national team). They will be there with the winners from other countries and spend a year in the Academy," Enriquez explained.
