Sao Paulo fans invade training camp and attacks players

Hundreds of fans from Sao Paulo invaded the club's training camp today and physically assaulted at least two players, Wesley and Michel Bastos, according to local sources.

Wesley was hit in the back of the head while trying to leave the field escorted by club security agents, as shown in a video shared on social media.

Sao Paulo's training session, scheduled for tomorrow's match against Coritiba in the twenty-second round of the Brazilian league, had to be suspended due to the invasion.

Players like Uruguayan Diego Lugano and Maicon tried to calm the hooligans at the entrance of the training center in the Barra Funda neighborhood, as seen in other videos shared on social media.

The invaders stole at least ten training uniforms, fourteen balls, and other equipment, according to local media.

Sao Paulo requested police assistance on Friday in anticipation of the protest, as stated in a document published on Globoesporte's website.

The protest was called by the hooligan group "Independente," which accuses the management of being "corrupt" and the players of being "lazy" and "tarnishing" the club's history, as stated on their website.

Sao Paulo is currently in eleventh place in the league, with 27 points and a poor recent performance, having won only one match in the last nine rounds.

The club's crisis coincided with the departure of coach Edgardo Bauza to take charge of the Argentine national team and the transfer of one of its stars, Paulo Henrique Ganso, to Sevilla.
