Ethiopia, the group's rival.

It was one of the three teams that participated in the first African Cup of Nations in 1957, along with Sudan and Egypt.

They won the 1962 Africa Cup of Nations, being the hosts. Since that time, they have not been able to maintain the level. At youth level, Ethiopia played in the 2001 U-20 World Cup in Argentina and was eliminated in the first round.

Tanzania, the group's rival.

The island of Zanzibar, which is part of Tanzania (and was an independent nation until 1964), is also an associate member of CAF and has played matches with other nations, but is not eligible to participate in the World Cup or the Africa Cup. See Zanzibar national soccer team.

Recently, Tanzania has spent more money on improving the team. Tanzania beat Burkina Faso in the Africa Cup and lost 4-0 to Senegal.

The Football Federation of the Democratic Republic of Congo was founded in 1919, when the country was not yet independent. The national team played its first match in 1948, then known as the Belgian Congo, against the team from Northern Rhodesia, today's Zambia. In that match, the national team achieved a 3-2 home victory.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has been affiliated with FIFA since 1962 and has been a member of CAF since 1963. History of the Guinea national team

The national team's first international match was in 1962 against Togo, losing 1-2. Eight years later, it participated in the 1968 Olympic Games, but failed to advance beyond the first round after an initial 1-3 loss to France. They then overcame Colombia 3-2 and ended up being thrashed by Mexico with a score of 0-4. After this, in 1970 they participated in the African Cup of Nations, being eliminated in the first round after being defeated 1:4 against the United Arab Republic. Afterwards, it obtained two draws, first 2:2 against Congo-Kinshasa and then 1:1 against Ghana. Four years later, they took part in the African Cup again and were again eliminated in the first round after losing 1:2 to Zaire. They then beat Mauritius 2:1 and drew 1:1 with Congo. In 1976 they took part in the African Cup again and this time they were able to achieve a better result: they started with a 1-1 draw against Egypt, beat Ethiopia and Uganda 2-1, with the same result in both matches. Thus, they advanced to the Final Group of the tournament, where they drew 1-1 with Nigeria, beat Egypt 4-2 and drew 1-1 with Morocco, obtaining the second place in the tournament.
