The Bicolor of Luis Fernando Tena remains in the League A of the Concacaf Nations League for the next edition
GUATEMALA --- With one matchday remaining in the qualification phase of the Concacaf Nations League, the Guatemala National Team has secured its place in League A for the next edition due to the results that have been recorded during the third matchday, with the defeats of Curacao and El Salvador, who are left without any points and without any chance of surpassing the Bicolor.
Earlier on Friday, the Panama National Team defeated Curacao 2-1 at the Ergilio Hato Stadium with goals from Édgar Bárcenas (29') and José Rodríguez (77'), while the hosts scored through Rangel Janga (94'). With this result, Panama reached 7 points, while Curacao suffered their third defeat and remained without points in the fifth position of the group.
In the second game of the group, Martinique took advantage of being the home team to defeat El Salvador 1-0 with a goal from Johnny Marajo in the 23rd minute, so the Central Americans, with Rubén de la Barrera making his debut on the bench, also suffered their third defeat and did not register any points in the tournament.
Therefore, according to the Competition Regulations of the Concacaf Nations League, the teams that finish in 5th and 6th position will be relegated to League B for the next edition of the tournament. This means that Curacao and El Salvador are the two teams that will be relegated regardless of what happens in the final matchday.
The other four teams in Group A: Panama, Guatemala, Trinidad and Tobago, and Martinique, will determine their placement in the fourth matchday, which is scheduled for next Tuesday, October 17.
