Ronaldinho pays tribute to Freddy Ternero in exhibition match
While all eyes will be on Ronaldinho playing for Cienciano against Sporting Cristal in an exhibition match this afternoon, football romantics will sigh deeply because they will see the late Freddy Ternero in their memory. This is thanks to Cienciano designing their jersey, specially for this match, in order to pay tribute to the coach.
Cusco is a celebration with the arrival of Ronaldinho, but the festivity will have a tone of emotion, because the Cienciano players will wear the jersey that pays tribute to the coach who died of cancer in September 2015.
As seen in the photograph, the number on the Cienciano jersey is accompanied by the signature of Freddy Ternero.
As a reminder, Freddy Ternero won the Copa Sudamericana in 2003 with Cienciano after defeating River Plate in the final, played in Arequipa; and the Recopa Sudamericana by beating Boca Juniors in the United States on penalties.
Freddy Ternero is also remembered in Peruvian football because he was Sergio Markarián's assistant coach, with whom he won the championship in 1993. He was also Juan Carlos Oblitas' assistant coach in the France 98 qualifiers.
