The Saudi team won in the Iranian capital with goals from Abdulrahman Ghareeb in the 62nd minute on an assist from the Portuguese star, and Mohammed Qassem Al Nakhli ten minutes later on a cross from Ghareeb.
The Iranian team played with a disadvantage from the 52nd minute due to the expulsion of Milad Sarlak for a second yellow card foul on Cristiano Ronaldo. Furthermore, their forward Mehdi Torabi was substituted early due to injury, being replaced by Shahab Zahedi. Cristiano Ronaldo had his clearest chance to score in the 20th minute when he headed the ball from close range, only to be denied by goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand.
Al Nassr from Riyadh is the current leader of Group E in the Asian Champions League with three points, two more than Qatari team Al-Duhail, coached by Argentine Hernan Crespo and featuring Portuguese player Ruben Semedo, and Tajikistan's Istiklol, who drew 0-0 on Tuesday in Dushanbe. In their next match, Al Nassr will host Istiklol in Riyadh, while Persepolis will travel to Doha to face Al Duhail.
