The CF Montreal player was not available for his team's last match and reports mention an injury that keeps him away from the field
MONTREAL, CANADA - With just 11 days until the start of the A League of the Concacaf Nations League, where the Guatemalan National Team will face El Salvador and Panama at the Doroteo Guamuch Flores Stadium, the Bicolor has received some unpleasant news ahead of these commitments.
According to reports coming from Canada, it is indicated that CF Montreal's fullback, Aaron Herrera, got injured during training last Thursday with his club and was left out of the call-up for the match against the New England Revolution that was played this Saturday for the MLS.
Despite the lack of an official medical report from CF Montreal, it is mentioned that Aaron Herrera suffered a ligament tear in one of his ankles and will be out of action for four to six weeks. This situation would prevent him from participating with the Guatemalan National Team during the matches against El Salvador and Panama, as well as the official matches with his respective club in the United States league.
Aaron Herrera made his debut with the Guatemalan National Team on June 15 in the friendly match against Costa Rica prior to the 2023 Gold Cup. Later, in the most important regional national team tournament, he established himself as a starter and was one of the most consistent players for Luis Fernando Tena.
Herrera had been ruled out for the match against Honduras on Sunday, September 3, as it is a preparation match outside the FIFA dates, so only Ricardo Jerez was considered.
ESPN Digital learned that the foreign-based players that Luis Fernando Tena will be calling up are expected to join the team's camp starting on Monday, September 4, in order to play during the September FIFA matches.
With Aaron Herrera's absence, there is an opportunity for Matan Peleg to be considered by Luis Fernando Tena.
