Nouhalia Benzina, international with the women's football team of Morocco, one of the debutants in this World Cup, became on Sunday the first woman to wear the hijab in a World Cup event, after FIFA finally allowed its use.

FIFA banned the use of the hijab between 2007 and 2014, considering it a health risk for players to play football while wearing a veil.

Benzina plays for the FAR (Royal Armed Forces Sports Association of Rabat) and always wears the hijab during Moroccan league matches, as well as during training sessions.

Although her teammates do not use it, she maintains the Islamic tradition and appears with the garment in official tournament photos.

Despite not playing any minutes in the first match against Germany, Benzina started as a starter against the Republic of Korea and was on the field throughout the entire match. A match that ended with Morocco's victory (1-0) against the Asians and allows them to continue believing in reaching the knockout stages.
