Concacaf Champions League: León and Los Angeles FC face off in the first leg of the final

On Wednesday, May 31, the fifth month of the year was not only coming to an end, but it ended with a great match: the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League final. A clash where León from Mexico and Los Angeles Football Club from the United States faced each other to start defining the new champion, and a Chilean player was the protagonist: Víctor Dávila.

The 25-year-old Chilean forward from Iquique was chosen by Nicolás Larcamón, former coach of Antofagasta, Huachipato, and Curicó in Chilean football, to start in the Estadio León located in Guanajuato, and the team managed to secure a 2-1 victory that fills them with confidence for the second leg, scheduled to be played on Sunday, June 4.

The Esmeraldas started the match with determination and wanted the victory at all costs. They showed it, as only eight minutes passed from the initial whistle for William Tesillo to take advantage of a corner kick cross from Ángel Mena and beat the opposing goalkeeper John McCarthy, putting the score at 1-0 in favor of the home team.

It seemed like the Panzas Verdes were going into halftime with a narrow lead, but a handball in the LAFC area, identified by VAR, awarded a penalty for the Mexicans in the 45+5'. Mena stepped up and scored, making it 2-0 on the scoreboard. However, there was a surprise goal before the end of the half.

In the 90+6', Gabonese forward Denis Bouanga scored the goal that sealed the final score at 2-1 in favor of León in the first leg. Therefore, the Mexicans will have a slight advantage going into the second leg and will surely seek to make the most of it.

Thus, the second leg of the Concacaf Champions League final is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 4. At 21:00 hours, Víctor Dávila's León will visit Los Angeles FC at the BMO Stadium in California, and they will seek to maintain their advantage in order to become champions of the tournament.
