Sustainability in Sports: Bettersport Takes Chilean Padel Pair to World Championship

The sustainability is the way to promote social development and society's progress without jeopardizing life on the planet. It's a way to sustain the way of life indefinitely with care for the environment, the pursuit of social justice, and the creation of economic value. Within this framework, inclusion and equal opportunities are essential values.

Bettersport, under this paradigm, is taking action to transform sports into a relevant actor for sustainability. They will bring a Chilean wheelchair padel duo to the first Padel World Championship, which will take place from May 12th to 14th in Madrid, Spain.

This duo is composed of Francisco Cayulef and Diego Pérez, both Quad category tennis players. Francisco is currently ranked 10th in the world, while Diego, although newly entering this category, won the bronze medal in the last Parapan American Games in Lima 2019.

The Background of Bettersport's Invitation to the Wheelchair Padel World Championship

Inviting a Chilean duo to the global competition was an initiative of the International Wheelchair Padel Federation, which contacted Bettersport to carry out this idea, which was immediately implemented. This way, Cayulef and Pérez will represent Chile in the World Cup, in which 21 duos from Argentina, Costa Rica, the Netherlands, France, Spain, and Morocco will participate.

For Diego Pérez, "this is a tremendous opportunity for us to once again represent Chile in a globally relevant event, in a sport like padel that is here to stay. I think the work that Bettersport is doing to bring visibility to issues such as inclusion and sustainability within the sports ecosystem with initiatives like this is very positive."

Francisco Cayulef, on the other hand, acknowledges that "for us as Paralympic athletes, it is very important to have more sports disciplines that we can practice. Even more so in competitions of such relevance as an adapted padel world championship. I want to thank Bettersport and the brands that have supported us to turn this participation into a reality."
