Gustavo Lorenzetti announced through his social networks that he would hang up his boots just before turning 38, a career that lasted two successful decades. One of the golden periods of "El Duende" was winning the Copa Sudamericana with the University of Chile in 2011, alongside Jorge Sampaoli.

That's why in a conversation he had with Radio ADN, the now-former midfielder made an incredible confession that involves the former coach of the Chilean national team: "I think I learned to play football with Sampaoli because I was the typical playmaker before joining the U, who would take the ball away from the central midfielder, and I always wanted to play with the ball. I felt bad if the ball didn't go through me."

However, the conversation also touched on the topic of his retirement, to which the native of Rosario pointed out: "It was something that I had been thinking about for a while, especially in the last year. I analyzed it during my vacation, I talked about it with my family, and the truth is that it wasn't something that cost me too much."

The former Deportes Iquique player didn't stop there and continued: "When I shed a few tears was when I wrote it on my social media and read it to my wife, that's when I got emotional, that was the moment of maximum emotion." At the end, he recalled his time at the university and explained everything he learned.

"When I arrived at the U, when I had Sampaoli, I understood that sometimes it wasn't necessary for the ball to come to me, and to know how to play for my teammate, play between the lines, I learned all of that at the U and I think that was my best moment. I felt fulfilled at the U," he concluded.
