German international Mats Hummels, who has been playing for Borussia Dortmund, has formalized his signing for Bayern Munich, four-time Bundesliga champion.
This was confirmed on Tuesday by Dortmund after popular newspaper "Bild" released the news on its digital edition.
The signing has been almost certain for a few weeks and rumors in that direction intensified after the player communicated his desire to join Bayern to Dortmund on April 28.
The management of the club from the Ruhr basin indicated at the time that the change was subject to a bid from Bavaria that was "in line with the extraordinary value" of the player.
Hummels' contract with Dortmund expires in 2017 and the transfer fee speculated in the media is between 30 and 40 million euros.
Things to Consider
Hummels, 27, joined Dortmund in 2008 from the Bavarian club, where he had played in the youth academy, and has a close relationship with Munich, where his parents live and where his wife comes from.
In the last season, Hummels was the captain of Dortmund and during the years he spent there, he was one of the key players, especially in the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 seasons when the team from the Ruhr basin became champions.
Hummels is the third player from Dortmund signed by Bayern, after Robert Lewandowski and Mario Götze.
