Legends of Real Madrid
Iker Casillas, Raúl, Fernando Hierro are some of the names that are already part of the history of Real Madrid. They were great references at the time and main figures in the titles achieved by the white team. However, unlike Álvaro Arbeloa, these players did not manage to have a grand farewell at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The fans of the Madrid team have always remembered their legends. Their names were chanted countless times due to their great performances. Finally, when they stopped having the level that made them figures, many of them silently distanced themselves from their club.
Iker Casillas and the rivalry with Mourinho
The former goalkeeper of Real Madrid had a bad exit from the Spanish club. At the end of last season, he went to Porto, after discussions and controversies with Portuguese coach José Mourinho. The coach took away his starting position and caused many fans to stop supporting the world champion goalkeeper.
Finally, in a press conference and while his teammates traveled to Australia to start the preseason, Iker Casillas left the white club, where he won three Champions League titles, five Spanish leagues, and two Copa del Rey trophies.
The 'Ángel' and an improvised farewell in Madrid
Only 3500 fans said goodbye to the 'Angel of Madrid'. The top scorer of Real Madrid left in July 2010 and due to a last-minute notice from the management, only a few were able to bid farewell to Raúl. Initially, it was only thought to be a press conference.
Later, and after the complaints of the Madrid fans, the white club decided to organize a friendly match against the Qatari team Al-Sadd, the team where the forward went. On that occasion, 80 thousand fans were able to say goodbye to the idol who gave them so much joy.
A career without recognition
Fernando Hierro played fourteen seasons with Real Madrid. The central defender and captain of the white club could not say goodbye in the best way to his club due to an argument with Florentino Pérez. This was sparked after a journalist entered the team's celebrations, following their victory in the 2002-2003 league.
This caused annoyance to the captain and the Madrid players. They threatened not to attend the institutional celebrations. Finally, the club decided not to renew the contract with the player despite having a previous verbal agreement. After two seasons, and when Hierro announced his retirement from football, he gave the honorary kick-off before a derby and was applauded by his fans.
Another captain without a farewell
Lorenzo Sanz and Florentino Pérez were fighting for the presidency of Real Madrid. Fernando Redondo decided to support the former. When the current president of the white club won, he decided to do without the Argentine. All this despite Vicente del Bosque wanting him for the following season.
The former captain of the white club had no choice but to go to Milan. The fans expressed their displeasure through a demonstration, and when Redondo returned to Madrid with the Italian club, the fans chanted his name and displayed banners and signs thanking him for his time at the Casa Blanca.
The disappointment of Guti
He arrived at Real Madrid at only 9 years old and belonged to the first team for 15 years. Despite this, Guti's farewell took place in July 2010, at a press conference where he was not accompanied by president Florentino Pérez. Valdano was with the player, and only a few fans showed their support and gratitude for his many years at the Madrid club.
