Mats Hummels started this morning in Borussia Dortmund's 5-1 victory over Wolfsburg in matchday 32 of the Bundesliga. The German defender had an outstanding performance but was also involved in an incident that he did not like before the match.
The fans of Borussia Dortmund made a banner with the phrase "The captain is the first to abandon the ship, the earlier the better". This is in reference to reports in the German media that the player, who is also an international with the German national team, said that he wants to play for Bayern Munich in the middle of the year. "I haven't offered myself to anyone. It's the worst nonsense that has been said," said Mats Hummels according to the DW Sport portal, which was present today at the Signal Iduna Park for the Borussia Dortmund match. The player was very upset and went to the dressing room before the match.
The fans of the former world champion did not show any mercy towards him. Every time he touched the ball against Wolfsburg, the home crowd booed him. They see this act as a betrayal, similar to what happened with Mario Götze and Robert Lewandowski.
