In the framework of the first regular season match for Toluca at Estadio Nemesio Diez, the club's management decided to pay tribute to Pelé, who passed away on December 29.

The choriceros team did not lag behind in paying tribute to the deceased three-time world champion, who died at the age of 82 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, after a battle with cancer.

During warm-up, the scarlet team wore a white shirt with the image of the Brazilian star and a phrase that said "Legends never die."

Edson Arantes do Nascimento played at Nemesio Diez Stadium in 1966, where Santos from Brazil visited the capital of the State of Mexico for a friendly match against Toluca, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

His former team, Santos from Brazil, paid tribute once again by displaying a large throne with a crown on top, showcasing his greatness, as he is considered by many as the greatest player of all time. The commemoration took place minutes before the Santos and Mirassol match for the first round of the group stage of the Campeonato Paulista, the most important regional tournament in Brazil.

The jersey that Santos players wear from this Saturday features a shield that is now accompanied by a crown.

In the jerseys used this Saturday, the numbering of all players was also changed so that the sum of the digits always equals 10, as another way to immortalize the idol.

Pelé was born on October 23, 1940, in Tres Corazones, Mina Gerais, Brazil, and began his career at Santos. He made his debut for Peixe at the age of 15, scoring a goal in his official debut.

With the Brazilian National Team, he played 112 matches, both official and non-official, and scored 95 goals.

Among his achievements at club level, in addition to the local tournaments with Santos, are two Copa Libertadores titles and two Intercontinental titles.
