2023 starts with an important national team event: the Colombian Under-20 South American Championship

Where La Roja will be present with the hope of qualifying for the World Cup. In the squad for the tournament, six players from Universidad de Chile stand out. Check out who they are below.

The U's six called-up players

Darío Osorio: the left-footed player doesn't need much introduction. He emerged strongly in 2022, where he earned the starting position at Azules with goals and even made his debut with the adult La Roja. His name has been circulating in many foreign clubs, so the South American Championship could be his springboard to Europe.

Lucas Assadi: although he debuted with Universidad de Chile in 2021, 2022 was the year when he became a real alternative. In the worst moment of the team, along with Osorio, they were the ones who carried out the task and kept the club in the first division. His game is also generating interest in Europe.

Marcelo Morales: the left-back earned the starting position at U in 2021 and formed a good partnership with Joaquín Larrivey, assisting him in scoring goals. However, the club's poor 2022 season affected him as well and Mauricio Pellegrino wants a new player in his position.

Yahir Salazar: the defender has not had much playing time at Romántico Viajero. In 2022, he only played 15 minutes, so in the Under-20 South American Championship, he could show his credentials and earn a spot in the 2023 squad.

Renato Cordero: the midfielder, like Salazar, has not yet fully settled in the first team. In 2022, he played five matches between the National Championship and the Chilean Cup.

Jeison Fuentealba: his case is unusual. Developed at U, he has not yet debuted for the Azules. In 2022, he was loaned to La Serena with limited playing time, only participating in 9 matches. Despite that, there is great expectation about what he can do with the Under-20 La Roja.
