Liverpool defeated Borussia Dortmund 4-3 in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals. With this result, the English team advanced to the semifinals of the tournament.
The visitors started better and showed it with the goals from Henrij Mkhitaryan (5') and Pierrer-Emerick Aubameyang (9'). However, Jürgen Klopp's team managed to score a goal before the end of the first half with a goal from Belgian Divock Origi (48').
At the start of the second half, the 'Yellow Storm' was not satisfied and went for more. A pinpoint pass from central defender Matts Hummels found Marco Reus free on the left, who beat Clyne and finished easily past Mignolet.
The response from the 'Red' team was immediate and in the 66th minute, Coutinho took a shot with his right foot that went in through the left post of goalkeeper Weidenfeller. In the 78th minute, central defender Sakho appeared in a corner kick and headed the ball at the right moment to equalize the score.
Up to that point, the draw would have given Dortmund the qualification due to the away goals they scored. But everything changed in the 91st minute when Lovren won the ball in the box and sealed Liverpool's qualification to the next round with a powerful header.
This Friday, there will be a draw in Nyon (Switzerland) to determine the pairings for the semifinals. Villarreal (ESP), Athletic Club (ESP), and Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR) are the teams that will accompany Liverpool.
