Spain defeats Costa Rica with a 7-0 victory in Qatar 2022 World Cup
In the first match of both teams in Group E of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Spain defeated Costa Rica with a score of 7-0 at Al Thumama Stadium in Doha.
Dani Olmo opened the scoring in the eleventh minute with a sensational individual play, chipping the ball over Oscar Duarte before finishing. Marco Asensio extended Spain's lead to 2-0 in the 21st minute with a curled shot. Ten minutes later, Ferrán Torres scored from a penalty kick, making it 3-0 at halftime.
Torres scored again in the 54th minute, and Gavi made it 5-0 in the 74th minute. Carlos Soler scored in the 90th minute, and Morata scored in the 92nd minute, sealing the final scoreline at 7-0. This victory by Spain is their largest win in a World Cup, while it is Costa Rica's heaviest defeat in the tournament.
