UEFA ratified Russia's expulsion from the next qualifiers for Euro 2024. The governing body of European football took this protest measure against the war generated by the Russian government against Ukraine. Remember that this selection has been punished since February.
The UEFA Executive Committee met in Croatia to provide details on the qualification criteria for Euro 2024. They learned about the qualification process, but the most striking thing has been the ratification of the expulsion of the Russian national team from all football competitions.
UEFA has excluded the Russians from its continental competition for national teams: "All Russian teams are currently suspended following the UEFA Executive Committee's decision of February 28, 2022, which was confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on July 15, 2022, until further notice. Therefore, Russia is not included in the qualifying draw," said the governing body of the Old Continent.
The reason for this measure is the conflicted relationship between Russia and Ukraine. The military attacks from the Russian government affect different sectors, including football. It is worth noting that this is not the first time that the national team has been affected: FIFA prevented them from playing in the playoff for Qatar 2022, and they were also excluded from participating in the Women's Euro.
Now, the Russian Federation appealed to the CAS after being excluded from Qatar 2022; however, the Court of Arbitration for Sport rejected the request.
