MLS: Charlotte FC, the new team for the 2022 season
For the 2022 season, the Major League Soccer (MLS) will have a new franchise: Charlotte FC. This will be the first soccer team from North Carolina in the top division (North Carolina Courage competes in the NWSL, Charlotte Independence in the USL Championship and North Carolina FC in the USL League One).
As a result of this addition, the MLS organized the traditional Expansion Draft that takes place whenever a new team joins the tournament. For this draft, the other entities had to protect eight players, leaving the rest available for the new team, which can make five selections.
One of the selections has been Costa Rican player Joseph Mora, who has been playing for DC United. "We selected defender Joseph Mora from DC United as the third choice in the Expansion Draft," announced the institution on its official social media accounts.
"Mora spent four years with DC United, registering four assists in 99 appearances and 83 starts for the Black and Red. The left-back also played extensively for the Costa Rican youth national teams, participating in the 2009 FIFA U17 World Cup and the 2011 FIFA U20 World Cup, and now has four caps with the senior national team," Charlotte FC reported.
It will be a new adventure for the Costa Rican player, who will wear the colors of another MLS team for the first time, having also played for Belén FC, Uruguay de Coronado, and Saprissa on separate occasions.
