Surprising
Prior to experiencing the Brazilian Grand Prix, a penalty rocked Formula 1. The FIA stewards decided to penalize Lewis Hamilton and he was disqualified from the qualifying session of the GP for a violation on his rear wing.
Hamilton started last in the sprint race. Despite the penalty, Mercedes issued a statement and stated that they will not appeal the FIA's decision.
"The team will not appeal Lewis' disqualification from qualifying. We want to win this world championship on the track," Mercedes said on their social media.
The British driver achieved the fastest time in Friday's qualifying, but his car did not pass the FIA's technical inspections due to the violation related to the DRS.
According to the FIA, the distance between the lower and upper flap of his rear wing exceeded the maximum limit of 85mm allowed by the regulations when the DRS was activated, which could have given him a competitive advantage.
