The AC Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic expressed confidence that Sweden, which is playing against Spain for the group leadership in the World Cup qualifying stage in the next two matches, will secure direct qualification to Qatar 2022.
"We only have the final stretch left to reach where we want. But with my self-confidence, I'm sure everything will turn out well," said Ibrahimovic at a press conference, emphasizing that these are the kind of matches that everyone wants to play.
Ibrahimovic avoided talking about the Sunday match against Spain in Seville and pointed out that he is only thinking about Georgia, relying on the cliché of taking it "one game at a time."
"I'm here because I'm just one more member of the team. If Janne (Andersson, Swedish coach) wants me to play both matches, I will play. If he wants me to play only one, I will. It all depends on what he wants," he said.
The Milan forward returned to the national team in March, five years after leaving, but injuries prevented him from participating in the last Eurocup and the subsequent qualifying matches.
"It's good to finally be here... I'm happy to be able to help and play," he said.
Ibrahimovic, like wine
Already 40 years old, he did not want to speculate on the day of his retirement and did not even assure that it will be after the World Cup.
"My idea is to continue as long as I can. Each time, I know my body better. It's older, but my head is younger, and I'm more handsome. There's something new every day," said Ibrahimovic with a smile. However, he acknowledged the need to manage his minutes after recovering from two consecutive injuries while considering his age.
With two matches remaining, Sweden leads Group B in the European zone with 15 points, two more than Spain and six more than Greece, who will face each other in Athens before the match in Seville between the teams led by Luis Enrique and Andersson.
